Random bracket FAQ

How does the random bracket generator work?

Paste your names, one per line, and press Make a random bracket. The list is shuffled fairly (every order is equally likely) and placed on the lines. Re-roll as many times as you like.

What happens with an odd number of names?

The bracket gives byes to fill it out: with 10 names, 6 first-round places are byes, so 6 names go straight to round two. Who gets a bye is part of the random draw.

Is the draw really random?

Yes. It uses a Fisher–Yates shuffle with your browser's random numbers, so no name is more likely than another to land anywhere.

Can I save the bracket?

Print it, save it as a PDF from the print dialog, or press Make it a bracket you can play to save it with a link that friends can open and pick winners in.
